Edsel's The Best of Marc Bolan & T.Rex '72-'77 is quite a good collection for T.Rex fans wondering how far they should delve into the sometimes overwhelming series of reissues and alternate recordings (well over thirty separate releases). Though it certainly isn't the "best" of the group, the two-disc set intersperses a dozen singles from the period and solid album tracks with offerings from other Edsel sets like Change (The Alternate Zinc Alloy), Rabbit Fighter (The Alternate Slider) and Messing with the Mystic (Unissued Songs 1972-1977). Fans of the group who don't want to buy every single "alternate" T.Rex album will find the best of the lot here. ~ John Bush, All Music GuideTracks
