Review

The Best of Abdullah Ibrahim is a fine selection of Abdullah Ibrahim's recordings covering a nearly 30-year span. Ibrahim's music has the sort of light, effortless swing one might associate with Vince Guaraldi's best work, crossed with an unmistakable South African flavor. All these tracks are great, but highlights include several tracks with Basil Coetzee, a wonderful tenor player who was the Charlie Rouse to Ibrahim's Monk, having played together for many years as perfect foils. This set makes an excellent introduction to the music of Ibrahim. ~ Sean Westergaard, All Music Guide
