The Best of Billie Jo Spears is a brief, slightly quirky 12-song collection of Spears' hits on Liberty and United Artists from the '70s and early '80s. The essential tracks are here, including the number one hit "Blanket on the Ground" and lesser but excellent singles such as "Never Did Like Whiskey" and "Too Much Is Not Enough." Some bigger hits are omitted in favor of minor cuts (namely her cover of "What the World Needs Now Is Love," which charted in the lower reaches of the Top 100), but The Best Of... provides a good -- if skimpy -- look at a distinct and worthy vocalist. ~ Greg Adams, All Music Guide
