The third volume in Sequel's Easy Project series includes no less than 30 themes by Tony Hatch & His Orchestra, originally recorded for Pye between 1961 and 1975. Hatch's brand of easy listening was well-constructed orchestral pop, though it was often even blander than the average easy listening fare. He only charted one single (1962's "Out of This World," obviously included here). Still, there are great versions of "Music to Watch Girls By," "Downtown," and "The Surrey With the Fringe on Top," as well as Hatch's own themes to numerous TV series: "Emmerdale," "Naked City," "Sportsnight," "The Champions," "Mr. and Mrs.," and "Best in Football," among others. It's wonderful to see such a solid collection for this important figure in British pop, but since most of his best work was in service of star vocalists, this compilation of original material is best for only devoted listeners of easy listening. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
