This documentary tells the story of the American military forces known as the Buffalo Soldiers. The six regiments of black troops were authorized by an Act of Congress in 1866. The ninth and tenth Cavalry Regiments served for the next two decades, helping to open up and keep safe passage for settlers headed west to Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Montana, and the Dakotas. They built roads and forts, strung telegraph wires, and protected settlers, railroad builders, and stage coaches. They fought against various Indian tribes, such as the Cheyenne, Arapahoe, Kiowa, Comanche, and Apache. The Plains Indians called them Buffalo Soldiers, a name the men wore proudly as evidence of their spirit like the sacred buffalo. This video tells their story through archival photographs, period art, personal accounts, and reenactments. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter, All Movie Guide
