The Cage

 

Ballet in one act with choreography and libretto by Robbins, music by Stravinsky (his Concerto in D), set and lighting by Rosenthal, and costumes by Ruth Sobotka. Premiered 14 June 1951 by New York City Ballet at City Center, New York, with Kaye, Magallanes, Mounsey, and Maule. A group of predatory females castrate and kill two male intruders after mating with them. It was revived by Birmingham Royal Ballet in 1996 and San Francisco Ballet in 1998.
