TV Series:

The Chamber

  • Release Year: 2002

Plot

Rushed onto the air on January 13, 2002 to beat the time of the strikingly similar ABC series The Chair, the Fox Network's "extreme" game show The Chamber brought the American viewing public all that much closer to the inevitable program in which contestants would have to put their lives on the line to win huge prizes. Each of the players was strapped into a chair, situated in the middle of a "simulated environment" chamber. The object of the game was to answer general-knowledge and pop-culture questions while being subjected to the "Seven Levels" of environmental elements: extreme heat, bitter cold, 100-mph winds, etc. Those who survived the ordeal won 1,000 dollars per correct answer, leading to the ultimate 100,000-dollar grand prize. Assembled by Dick Clark's production company, The Chamber was emceed by globetrotting news correspondent and TV magazine-show host Rick Schwartz. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
