The Children's Hour

  • Release Year: 1913
  • Run Time: 1rl minutes

Plot

A rare surviving one-reel fantasy from the Thanhouser Company of New Rochelle, NY, The Children's Hour is based on Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's famous poem. Longfellow himself is portrayed by Thanhouser's favorite character comedian at the time, Riley Chamberlin, and is depicted falling asleep in his living room. The famous Thanhouser child actors -- including the Fairbanks Twins (Madeline and Marion) and Helen Badgley -- then enter to delight the old man by performing a series of tableaux depicting such popular fairy tale figures as Little Red Riding Hood and Mother Goose. The Children's Hour has been preserved by the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, All Movie Guide
