Plot

Based on a novel by Samuel Hopkins Adams, The Clarion served as a vehicle for the popular Carlyle Blackwell. Still in the bloom of youth, Blackwell plays a starry-eyed idealist who purchases the Clarion, a small-town newspaper. He immediately launches an attack against local slum conditions. One of the vilest slum properties is owned by wealthy Marion Dentler, with whom Blackwell has fallen in love. Conflicts of interest aside, all works out well at the end. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
