Biography

Power pop quintet the Click Five formed in Boston in mid-2003. Lead guitarist Joe Guese, bassist Ethan Mentzer, and keyboardist Ben Romans were students at the Berklee School of Music when they captured the attention of svengali manager Wayne Sharp, a longtime jazz promoter whose first attempt at creating a pinup-ready pop combo, Candy (featuring future Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke), ended in commercial disaster when the group's hotly tipped 1985 debut, Whatever Happened to Fun, flopped at retail. After signing Guese, Mentzer, and Romans, Sharp added another Berklee student, drummer Joey Zehr, who recommended childhood friend Eric Dill to fill the band's frontman slot. Upon receiving their Sharp-issued matching mod-influenced suits and salon-styled haircuts, the Click Five began honing their chops on the Boston nightclub circuit, and in the spring of 2004 cut their first two-song demo session. A four-song tape quickly followed, and within a month the group signed to Lava Records, soon after touring the U.S. in support of Ashlee Simpson and releasing an EP, Angel to You (Devil to Me). The Click Five's debut LP, Greetings from Imrie House, followed in the summer of 2005 amid a flurry of licensed lunchboxes, trading cards, and hair products. The album was also supported via tour dates in support of the Backstreet Boys. After replacing Dill with singer/guitarist (and fellow Berklee alum) Kyle Patrick, Modern Minds and Pastimes followed in 2007. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

History

Four of the five original members attended the Berklee College of Music and participated in many other rock bands before coming together to form The Click, which later became The Click Five.[citation needed] The band lived together in Boston in a rented house on Imrie Road, which gave name to their debut album's title. The group played their first venue at the KISS 108 FM Hatchshell Concert on the Charles River in July 2004. After that they received the attention of some of the major labels and flown to NY and LA by Epic Records Scout Dave Rocco. They were signed to Lava Records that autumn by Andy Karp. The band began recording their first album at QDivision Studios in Somerville with Mike Denneen, veteran producer for artists such as Aimee Mann, Fountains of Wayne, Letters to Cleo, and many other notable bands.

Following the completion of the recording, the band began touring, starting at smaller venues around the Boston area to larger ones across North America.[citation needed] The music video for the song, "Catch Your Wave", an homage to "A Hard Day's Night" by The Beatles, was released in the summer and autumn of 2005 to MTV, VH1, and other outlets. Their debut album, Greetings from Imrie House, was released 16 August 2005. After a rigorous nine month U.S. Tour, the Click Five toured Asia in 2006, visiting Singapore, Malaysia, and Japan, and later toured the British Isles that autumn with McFly.[citation needed]

In late 2006, lead singer Eric Dill left the band to begin a solo career in Los Angeles. In early 2007, the band brought on new lead singer Kyle Patrick (born Kyle Patrick Dickherber), another Berklee graduate who studied with singer songwriter law of attraction mentor, Lauren Passarelli. The band recorded their second album, Modern Minds and Pastimes, in the early months of 2007 and released it on 26 June 2007. The release was followed by a small United States tour.[citation needed] The band returned to Asia in autumn 2007 with a significantly larger itinerary. They were given the title "Band of the Year" by 987FM (Singapore) in the Top 100 Countdown of 2007 and 2008.IN 2007 The Click Five starred in a movie called Taking 5; in which they play members of teen band 5 Leo Rise, and the band gets kidnapped by two girls so that they can get out of "social siberia" forever.

On August 2, 2008, The Click Five won the Knockout Award at MTV Asia Awards 2008, in Genting Highlands, Malaysia. On August 29, 2008, lead singer Kyle Patrick began a solo acoustic tour in the US with his friend and fellow Berklee Singer/Songwriter, Jesse Ruben. He returned to begin recording a new album with The Click Five in November.

On the 7th, 12th, and 14th of December in 2008, The Click Five took part in an event called MTV EXIT. It is a campaign to raise awareness and increase prevention of human trafficking and exploitation in Asia and the Pacific. They performed in several places around Asia, including Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh. They also performed at the first international rock concert held at the ancient temple of Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia.

During March 2009, The Click Five began their March Residency tour playing at the Lizard Lounge, Boston, every Saturday night, World Cafe Live, Philadelphia, every Wednesday night, Pianos, New York, every Thursday night and had two additional shows in Virginia and Connecticut eventually culminating in a show in December 2009 at Boston's famed Great Scott, just blocks from their old Imrie St. apartment.

The Click Five has close relations to the Brooklyn band, Atomictom who performed with them at their show at Great Scott in December 2009.

The Click Five is currently finishing recording new material and plan to release their third album by early Fall 2009. The band's new song, "I Quit! I Quit! I Quit!", can be listened to at the website: http://www.z100.com/new2/artists/theclickfive. Also, "I Quit! I Quit! I Quit!" and another one of the band's new songs, "Be In Love", are now available to order on vinyl with free mp3s at http://www.theclickfive.com.
