When Ab Bryant and Brian MacLeod left Chilliwack, they teamed up with Randy Bachman's wife, Denise McCann, and future Loverboy drummer Matt Frenette to form the Headpins, a hard rock outfit that made ample radio headway in the early '80s. The Headpins played a straight-ahead brand of guitar rock, with songs like the screeching "Turn It Loud," the headbanging "Don't It Make Ya Feel," and "Just One More Time" just a few of their biggest songs. Greatest Hits includes all of these tracks, plus favorites like "Keep Walkin' Away," "Celebration," "Don't Ya Ever Leave Me," and the sexually anxious rockers "Feel It (Feel My Body)" and "I Know What You're Thinking." With their debut album Turn It Loud selling over two million copies in Canada, and 1983's Line of Fire almost doing the same, female lead singer Darby Mills made her presence known with her gutsy, sandpaper throttle and tomboyish heavy metal attitude. Likened to countrymates Toronto, and even Rough Trade at times, the Headpins churned out some enjoyable chord crunchers during their short stint as a band, but when their record label, Solid Gold Records, went bankrupt, it marked the end of the group's career.
