Country Dressmaker, The (1907), a play by George Fitzmaurice, first staged at the Abbey Theatre. Julia Shea, the dressmaker of the title, has waited ten years for her lover, Pats Connor, to return from America. When he does she turns him down, but he finally wins her back. It deploys a harsh and angry realism.
