Biography

Canada's reigning monarchs of psychobilly, the Creepshow are a four-piece band that fuses a fondness for classic horror flicks with a punk-flavored take on high-octane rockabilly, which has earned them a loyal fan following in the Great White North, as well as Europe and the United States. Hailing from Burlington, Ontario, the Creepshow were formed in 2005, with Hellcat (aka Jen Blackwood) on lead vocals and guitar, Sickboy (aka Sean McNabb) on upright bass, the Reverend McGinty (aka Kristian Rowles) on keyboards, and Matt Pomade (aka Matt Gee) on drums. The Creepshow wasted no time in building a reputation for their outrageous live shows and manic on-stage energy, and after appearing on the compilation album Zombie Night in Canada, Vol. 2, they signed with the Canadian punk label Stereo Dynamite Recordings, which released the group's first long-player, Sell Your Soul, in the spring of 2006.

A few weeks later, Stereo Dynamite landed a distribution deal with the Canadian branch of EMI, and the Creepshow suddenly found themselves with major-label distribution for their no-quarter "hellbilly" music. Extensive touring followed, and before long the Creepshow were one of Canada's most talked-about new bands. In January 2007, Hellcat announced that she and her significant other (Hooch, frontman with likeminded Canadian psychobillies the Matadors) were expecting a baby, and she would be taking time off from touring with the group; her sister Sarah Blackwood agreed to step in as singer and guitarist while Jen was on "maternity leave," though Hellcat insists her departure from the group is temporary and she'll continue to write material for the Creepshow while off the road. ~ Mark Deming, All Music Guide

The Creepshow is a band from Burlington, Ontario, Canada.[2] The band formed in 2005 when the four members got together with the purpose of starting a hellbilly band. The Creepshow writes the majority of their songs about horror films, with the music fitting the horror punk genre - hence hellbilly.

Former Bands

The band has its roots in the 905 music scene with most members having been in various garage bands before The Creepshow. McNab was the singer/guitarist for local legends Outspan and Jersey. McGinty was the songwriter and trombonist for 905 ska band two-face and played trombone in Outspan as well. Matt "Pomade" Gee splits his time between The Creepshow and punk band Rehab for Quitters for which he also plays drums.

The Creepshow is known for their fast-paced songs filled with lots of backup vocals from McNab and McGinty and sing-alongs that the whole crowd can participate in. The band is also known for their live shows.

Stereo Dynamite, Sell Your Soul

After initially recording two songs for the Zombie Night in Canada Vol. 2, Stereo Dymamite founder Adam (DOOM) Sewell signed the band after hearing the band's demo in 2005. The band released their first album Sell Your Soul on Stereo Dynamite shortly after on May 2, 2006.[3]

On Monday, March 27, 2006, Stereo Dynamite signed an exclusive distribution deal with EMI Music Canada greatly increasing the label and bands distriubtion. [4]

Hellcat's departure

After Hellcat became pregnant, the vocals and guitar duties were taken over by Hellcat's younger sister, Sarah "Sin" on a temporary basis, and then permanently.[5] Hellcat made her final appearance with the band in their video for "The Garden". In the summer of 2009, Hellcat began producing an album with her band Hellcat and the Prowl.

Run For Your Life

On October 27th, 2008, the band released their second album, Run For Your Life.[6] The band once again recorded with Sell Your Soul recorder/producer Steve Rizun. The album was released by Stomp Records.

Touring

The band has completed several tours across Canada, as well as two European tours. The band continues to tour with Sarah as the lead vocalist. The band recently finished a tour with The Unseen and Tiger Army the last show taking place May 11 in Ottawa, ON. The Creepshow puts touring on the same level of enjoyment as recording. In an interview with Exclaim! Magazine, singer Sarah Blackwood said that "Downtime has been good, but it's always the same. After about two weeks we all get that itch. And after three weeks our pockets are empty and we're like 'Okay, we need to go back on tour, I am going crazy!" [7]

On August 23, 2008, the band joined Anti Flag on a Canadian Tour after which they made their way back to Europe in October in support of their new album.

The Creepshow played the Warped Tour in 2008 on the D-Tox/Union stage in Montreal.[8] They are currently scheduled to be performing there again in 2009.

The band will be touring North America and Europe in early 2009. [9]

On August, 2009, the band had 2 very successful gigs in Russia. [10]

In September, 2009 the band announced a U.S. tour through October.

In February 2010, the band is listed to perform in The Devil Wears Prada's place at the Australian alternative festival, Soundwave.[11]
