Review

While it has been paired on CD with another Quincy Jones soundtrack, The Pawnbroker, Deadly Affair doesn't quite live up to the fetching complexities of its fellow celluloid backdrop. That said, Deadly Affair's dreamy mix of bossa nova moods and unobtrusive symphonics still makes for some pleasant, if not always provocative, listening. Plus, one gets to hear Astrud Gilberto in fine fettle on the opening cut. Fans in search of other top-notch soundtracks like The Pawnbroker should also check out Ryko's two-fer disc of Jones' In the Heat of the Night and They Call Me Mr. Tibbs. ~ Stephen Cook, All Music Guide
