Political incorrectness aside, the Dwarves brought out the crassest, sleaziest kick in head without offering any apologies on their Sub Pop debut Blood Guts & Pussy. The Dwarves epitomized hate-filled punk, but with each album, these guys have toned it down a little more, especially since the departure of guitarist Hewhocannotbenamed. But the Dwarves continue with the same G.G. Allin-esque lyrical content of violence that's intended to spawn sacks of hate mail. Unfortunately, the speed and aggression is slowed down to midtempo, 1977 punk, à la Dead Boys and Viletones -- all still enjoyable, though. On the flip is Blag Dahlia, Dwarves vocalist, reading from an excerpt of his novel Armed to the Teeth with Lipstick. ~ Mike DaRonco, All Music Guide
