Review

This obscure LP (the only release by the New Hampshire Library of Traditional Jazz) features clarinetist Edmond Hall's 1949 sextet during radio broadcasts emanating from Boston's Savoy Café. Since this particular outfit did not record, and the recording quality is decent, the music will be enjoyed by Dixieland fans fortunate enough to find it. In addition to the distinctive clarinetist, the band features the promising young cornetist Johnny Windhurst, trombonist Vic Dickenson, pianist Ken Kersey, bassist John Field and drummer Jimmy Crawford playing a diverse and generally fresh set of standards, including "Singin' the Blues," "Robbins Nest," Mary Lou Williams' "Lonely Moments," and "Panama." ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
