Plot
Hong Kong action crime specialist Andy Lau (Young and Dangerous, Infernal Affairs) makes his English-language debut with this psychological thriller concerning a vigilant federal agent in pursuit of a dangerous sex offender. As the search for a missing girl intensifies, a tireless agent assigned the task of training his younger female protégé (Claire Danes) sets out to arrest the paroled sexual deviant whom he believes to be responsible for the crime. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
A hyper-vigilant employee of the Department of Public Safety (Richard Gere) checks on registered sex offenders. While training his young female replacement Allison Lowry (Claire Danes), he must track down a missing girl (Kristina Sisco) whom he is convinced is connected to a paroledsex offender he's investigating; these are his last working days, because he has been fired for not working according to the rules of the department.
One of the main reasons that Gere's character breaks the rules is his habit to pry into the registered offenders, often having it stated throughout the film that he doesn't understand private issues; he is also very persistent in interrogating the offenders, mainly centering on Viola (KaDee Strickland) in the plot, who is known to have a connection to another culprit that Gere and Danes suspect to have taken the girl.
The film was released theatrically in several countries throughout the world in late 2007, early 2008, yet in the United States it premiered April 11, 2008 at the Palm Beach International Film Festival, before being released on DVD on May 20, 2008 by Genius Products[2][3].
