Biography

When Joe Johnson (lead), Raleigh Tunrage (tenor), Joseph Armstrong (baritone), and James Keels (bass) weren't making gospel music as the Trumpeteers, they were working in a decidedly more pop idiom as the Four Rockets. The Baltimore-spawned quartet cut a pair of singles for Aladdin Records around 1948 under the Four Rockets name (later shortened to the Rockets). The first was "Travelin' Light" b/w "Little Red Wagon", but their second, "Loch Lomond" b/w "Little Brown Jug", is probably the better known through more frequent re-releases. The group went through numerous personnel changes during their history, under whichever name they were using. ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
