Biography

Seattle trio the HollowPoints played punk that leaned to the hardcore side of the style's sound upon their formation in 2002. Vocalist/guitarist Matty McKinney, bassist Ben Early, and drummer Ben Colley issued the early 2004 Annihilation EP through Dirtnap before hooking up with Duane Peters (of U.S. Bombs and Die Hunns fame) and his Disaster imprint for their 2005 album The Black Spot. The album's somber lyrics expressed dissatisfaction with the sociopolitical climate of the United States and portrayed the troubled lives of young people with little hope for the future. Over time, the HollowPoints shared stages with acts like the Briefs, Angel City Outcasts, G.B.H., and Toxic Narcotic, and after adding second guitarist Will McCarthy in January 2006 (formerly of Northwest metal punks Axes of Evil), they later joined the U.S. Bombs for a complete nationwide tour. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
