Ralph finds himself the reluctant idol of Tommy, a new kid in the neighborhood. When Tommy declares that he wants to be a "great athlete" like Ralph, our hero's ego expands to gargantuan dimensions. Before long, Ralph is regaling Tommy with fascinating (and utterly fictional) accounts of his football, baseball, and boxing prowess. When Tommy invites Ralph to join him in a father-and-son competition staged by the local Boy Scout troop, Ralph reveals himself to be a fraud. Even so, Ralph ends up a hero in Tommy's eyes, simply by telling the truth about himself. An unusually sentimental Honeymooners entry, the 40-minute "Hero" originally aired February 19, 1955, as a sketch on The Jackie Gleason Show. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
