Biography

Sunday's Best's Pedro Benito (guitar), John McGinnis of Neither Trumpets nor Drums (bass), ex-Knapsack singer/guitarist Blair Shehan, and former Pulley drummer Tony Palermo began their journey as the Jealous Sound at the tail end of the 1990s. They signed with Better Looking in summer 2000 and quickly issued a self-titled EP; it went on to sell 11,000 copies and show dates with At the Drive-In, the Get Up Kids, the Promise Ring, and Death Cab for Cutie allowed the band's buzz to soar. SPIN magazine to praise the Jealous Sound as "the rock you must have." The next year, Mojo Records offered the foursome a contract, but after weeks of making a deal, the label lost their distribution. The Jealous Sound were without a record home, but pride didn't stop them from getting back with Better Looking. Plans for a proper studio full-length came together in late 2002; the band headed into the studio with Tim O'Heir (Lou Barlow, Morphine, Juliana Hatfield) and Adam Wade of Shudder To Think stepped in for a departing Palermo before the year's end. A full, heavy rock sound was found on The Jealous Sound's long-awaited full-length debut Kill Them With Kindness, which appeared in June 2003. North American dates with the Foo Fighters also coincided the release. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide

History

The band's eponymous debut EP The Jealous Sound was released in 2000. In 2003 they shopped around their demos for a full-length follow-up to the EP. The band were set to release an album on Mojo Records, but soon after their signing, Mojo parted ways with Universal leaving them without a distribution deal. Shuffled over to Mojo/Jive and with little interest in the band they decided to leave the label and return to Better Looking Records to record Kill Them With Kindness with producer Tim O'Heir. The album was named by Spin magazine as one of the Top 40 albums of 2003.

In 2005 they announced via their website that they had signed to The Militia Group for their second album which would be produced again by Tim O'Heir. The official band website has not been updated since 2005, and rumor has spread that lead singer Blair Shehan has decided to quit the band. However, on June 1, 2006, the band posted a blog on their MySpace, commenting that work on their upcoming LP for The Militia Group is progressing.

On August 24th, one of Militia Group's staff said, "I have heard the new songs myself. They're still putting out a material."

On August 15, 2008, the band posted a blog on their MySpace page confirming the title of their new release, Got Friends. The blog said the album would be out "real soon" and to stay tuned.

On September 4, 2008, the band posted the following on their MySpace page: "Got Friends available on iTunes 10/14/2008."

On February 13, 2009, the band posted the following blog, entitled "There is hope for us...." on their Myspace page: "Thank you all for standing by our side.... We will post something with a little more detail soon. Promise. Love, The Jealous Sound [2]"

The Vinyl Collective Cooperative has pressed Kill Them With Kindness as a double LP gatefold, on 2 colors (333 on baby blue, 667 on white). The pressing will contain the entire album, “Kill Them With Kindness” as well as the Self-Titled EP. The album and EP, which were originally released on CD by Better Looking Records, have been licensed by the cooperative for release on vinyl. [3]

According to a blog post on The Village Voice's website, The Jealous Sound broke up in 2005, and the songs on the Got Friends EP are "the last shreds of material recorded before Shehan went crazy and more or less disappeared."[4]

Recently On the Jealous Sound myspace page:www.myspace.com/thejealoussound a blog entitled "There is hope for us....", in which it appears the group is "Back" together and recording a new album.
