The Last of the Sky Pirates is the fifth book in The Edge Chronicles series by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell . Unlike the previous books in the series, this focuses on Rook Barkwater and Felix Lodd, but the main character of the first three books, Twig, is present as well. The story is of young Rook as he becomes a librarian knight and is put up against the Guardians of the Night, including Xanth Filantine. The character of Vox Verlix is mentioned, setting up for the sixth book, Vox.
Synopsis
Rook Barkwater lives in the network of sewer-chambers beneath Undertown, the bustling main city of the Edgeworld. He dreams of becoming a librarian knight - one of those sent out to explore the mysteries of their world. Somewhere out there lie the secrets of the past - including the lost floating city of Sanctaphrax - and, maybe, hope for a future free from the fear of tyranny. When his chance comes, Rook grabs it! Breaking all the rules, he sets out on a journey to the Free Glades and beyond. His luck and determination lead him from one peril to another until, buried in the heart of the Deepwoods, Rook encounters a mysterious character -the last sky pirate - and is thrust into a bold adventure that dares to challenge the might of the dread Guardians of the Night.
- After setting out on his life-changing treatise voyage, after over a year of studies and practise in the free glades, Rook discoveres a small banderbear female, Wumeru. Then, disobeying her wishes, Rook follows her to the Great Convocation, and meets a peculiar character. This character is Twig, who featured in Beyong the Deepwoods, Stormchaser, and Midnight Over Sanctaphrax. Twig doesnt realise that young Rook is actually his great-grandson, and takes him to reasue his long-lost friend Cowlquape, who also featured in Midnight Over Sanctaphrax.
