Biography

The Lillingtons blasted their way out of the sleepy cowtown of Newcastle, WY, in 1996 high off the influence of spirited bands like the Ramones, Screeching Weasel, and the Queers. Comprised of Kody Templeman (vocals/guitar), Cory Laurence (bass), and Tim O'Hara aka Timmy V (drums), the band also later included Zachary Rawhouser (guitar). Self-releasing their first album, 1996's Shit Out of Luck, the Lillingtons initially coupled their direct pop-punk approach with adolescent-styled lyrics about girls and high school. But after a succession of vinyl-only releases, the guys got sick of singing about broken hearts and decidedly changed their lyrical line of attack.

Their subsequent album, Death by Television, was issued in 1999 on the Lookout! imprint Panic Button (run by Ben Weasel and John Jughead). Produced by Mass Giorgini -- of Screeching Weasel, Squirtgun, and Queers fame -- the album was thematically based around sci-fi movies. NOFX's Fat Mike has been quoted praising the fan-favorite record as "the best pop-punk album of all time." Heavily touring the punk circuit with bands like Teen Idols, the Lillingtons were becoming underground favorites. Again with Giorgini behind the controls, their spy-themed follow-up, The Backchannel Broadcast, appeared in February 2001.

By the end of the year, however, the band had called it quits. Following the group's dissolution, Kody moved on to play with Laramie-based (and similarly minded) Teenage Bottlerocket. Tim moved to New Mexico, where he played with the Eyeliners before starting his own hardcore outfit, Stabbed in Back. Clearview issued the three-CD box set Technically Unsound in 2005; it contained the out of print Shit Out of Luck (the original album mix and a new one by Giorgini), tracks from a 10" split with Nothing Cool, the Lost My Marbles 7" (recorded by Joe Queer), live tracks, and unreleased material for the Stupid World 7". The Lillingtons reunited in early 2006 with plans for a new album on Red Scare that fall. The label re-released Death by Television in June 2006, and as promised, the all-new The Too Late Show appeared that October. ~ Corey Apar, All Music Guide

The Lillingtons (1995-2001, 2006-2008) were a punk rock band from Newcastle, Wyoming. Considered a pop punk act by contemporaries, their sound often draws comparisons from punk pioneers the Ramones.

The original lineup consisting of Kody Templeman, Zack, Cory, and Tim as a four-piece only recorded the first 7","I Lost My Marbles", produced by Joe King of The Queers for his More Bounce to the Ounce compilation CD. The band continued as a three-piece after Zack quit.

Their first full-length album, titled Shit Outta Luck, was released on Clearview Records in 1996. Following the release of their first album the band decided to change their sound, and in 1999 they went into the studio with producer-engineer Mass Giorgini to record a new LP. The result was Death By Television, an album that took sci-fi movie-themed songs such as "War Of The Worlds" and "Invasion Of The Saucermen" and combined them with tracks that made references to other retro themes, such as "X-Ray Specs."

The band spent the next two years touring heavily within the punk scene and disbanded after teaming with Giorgini for one last album, the spy-themed LP The Backchannel Broadcast, released in February 2001 on Lookout! Records. The album included the song "Wait It Out", written by Ben Weasel and later re-recorded by The Riverdales for their record Phase Three.

John Jughead (of Screeching Weasel and Even in Blackouts) filled in as second guitar on many tour stops on the Death by Television and Backchannel tours. Other notable appearances on these tours include Ben Weasel (at The Fireside in Chicago, his first stage appearance since 1995), and Lurch Nobody. Timmy V left the band after Death by Television and was replaced by Austin, Texas drummer Scott.

Red Scare Industries reissued Death By Television and Backchannel Broadcast in 2005. The band split for a few years before reuniting with all original members to release a new album, The Too Late Show in 2006 with no plans on reuniting for a tour to support due to the members' other commitments.

Frontman Templeman is currently a member of Laramie, Wyoming pop punk band Teenage Bottlerocket. Drummer Timmy V is currently playing as a hired hand with Albuquerque, New Mexico all girl three-piece The Eyeliners, and plays drums in his own project Stabbed in Back, a solo hardcore/punk project entitled A Portrait of Noise.
