Review

Trust Company's major-label debut is a rather standard affair that meshes melody with aggressive vocal screams like many other acts that have sprouted since Linkin Park and Papa Roach scored big in 2000. Despite the simplistic formulas present here, these young men have patched together a sound that is catchy and eager for additional spins. Songs like "Downfall" and "Hover" capitalize in large ways on the nu-metal trend, and are extremely memorable tracks. Occasionally Trust Company slides in melodies that border on the ever-popular punk-pop genre, which helps distance the group from many of its peers. Unfortunately, while The Lonely Position of Neutral has a wealth of strong tracks, it is quite apparent that the group's similarities to Linkin Park may hurt its long-term success, as many may find the band nothing more than the expected carbon copy of other, more successful acts. This is a shame, because those willing to give this album a chance will find one of the most infectious alternative metal albums of 2002. ~ Jason D. Taylor, All Music Guide

The Lonely Position of Neutral is Trust Company's debut album. It was released on July 22, 2002 internationally and a day later in the United States; a version including two bonus tracks was released on February 19, 2003. The Lonely Position is Trust Company's most successful to date and was certified gold for sales in excess of 500,000 copies.

The album's lead single, "Downfall," gained the band its breakthrough popularity for both its infectious melody and unusual music video. The track reached number 6 on both the Alternative Songs and Mainstream Rock Tracks charts, and earned a spot, at number 91, on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart. The video features frontman Kevin Palmer walking down a street leaving everything he walks past being blown by a massive gust of wind. It found significant airplay on MTV2. A second single arrived in "Running From Me," which had more modest popularity. Its video features the band wearing strange masks and unveiling them in the pouring rain.

Appearances

"Take it All" was featured in the Xbox game Breakdown by Namco. It is played in the ending credits, and it is also included in the game's promotional video that is unlocked once the game is finished. It also appears in the video games BMX XXX, MX Unleashed and Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure It was also with in the popular World of Warcraft video Tales of the Past 3 in the ending scene where Blazer kills Arthas.
