Review

Not sure why this New York trio took three years to follow-up their debut Flight of Myself EP, but they've changed since. With three exceptions, gone are the two-minute "that's all?" excursions of Flight's "get in, get out" 11-minute, six-song bow. Perhaps, though, the slow-boiling closer "Flight of Myself" was a harbinger: With Steve Albini at the Chicago recording controls, the threesome explore somnambulant yet fitful siestas, before gradually, grumpily awakening Renn Cheadle's guitar into a roused-dog awareness. Like a riptide, you're in it before you know it. A similar tug of war exists within singer Molly Donahue, from siren-like pacifier to mildly irritated growl, sometimes pitching concerns of pitch control. Slowcore hasn't been such a slow burn since the days of Codeine, Hugo Largo, and Galaxie 500. ~ Jack Rabid, All Music Guide
