Review

On The Madness of the Crowds, Ace Troubleshooter may have broken free from the formulaic mold of pop-punk. But the result is an album that, though it doesn't lack emotion, is uneven. On their sophomore effort, the band is at their best on the first two songs, the socially critical title track ("Hollywood, pop culture's best/You do no good, you vulture's nest") and the upbeat love song "2:00 Your Time," about the singer's knack of forgetting his girlfriend is in a different time zone and waking her up late at night. The album then descends into uncharted territory for the band -- unrestrained emo that seems to move at a snail's pace compared to the rest of "the madness." That pace is picked up only during some mediocre pop-punk songs. No one should be faulted for trying something new, but Ace Troubleshooter seems better than the schizophrenic, battle-of-the-bands album they have produced. ~ Ron DePasquale, All Music Guide
