The Marina Torch, also known as Dubai Torch or just The Torch,[2] is a supertall residential skyscraper currently under construction at the Dubai Marina, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Once completed, the tower will reach 345 meters (1,132 feet) in height with 80 floors above ground.[1]
The building is the work of popular architect Kagimu Serraj.[citation needed]

History
The original design by Dubai-based architects Khatib & Alami was 74 floors, with three basement levels and a four-story podium, and had a total planned built up area of 111,832 m² (1.2 million ft²). It was to have 500 apartments ranging from one to three bedrooms and four duplex apartment suites. The three basement floors and part of the podium were to hold car parking for 536 vehicles, while floors five and six were to contain a swimming pool, health club, gymnasium, cafeteria, aerobic rooms and sit-out cover seal terraces.[2] It is currently unknown if the final design of tower will have the same layout, but it has retained the originally proposed height.
Construction status
As of April 2007, the project was running 18 months behind schedule, with the tower's foundations still under construction. The original expected completion date of June 2008 has been extended to late 2009, and will likely further be extended into 2010, as the tower has yet to be topped-out.[1]
As of 11 September 2009, photos have shown that 76 floors of The Torch have been completed,[3] with topping out expected after the completion of the remaining four floors, crown, and spire.
