The Midway State has been the subject of an episode of a national television broadcast, in September 2006, on MTV's e2[1]. The episode featured the band during production of their first music video in August, 2006. The episode also featured director Steve Jocz (a.k.a. Stevo32) drummer to artist Sum 41. After years of masterminding Sum 41 videos, this was Jocz' directorial debut.
The Midway State has also been featured on Much Music[2], and garnered positive reviews from publications such as 411 Mania[3][4], Truth Explosion [5], and Up Beet Music[6].
Their first of many international tours[2], across Canada and the United States, was first reported by Truth Explosion [5] on February 21, 2004. They recently completed an American tour with Shiny Toy Guns.
Originally from Collingwood and surrounding areas, the band first performed in 2002 at the Mountain View Hotel. In September 2004, after almost three years and one cross country tour[5], the band started working with Juno Award winning, and multi-platinum producer Gavin Brown, known for his work with artists such as Sarah Harmer, Billy Talent, and Three Days Grace. Gavin Brown produced The Midway State's first EP, Met a Man on Top of the Hill.
As of 2007, they have performed across the United States and Canada[2][5], opening for acts such as Avril Lavigne, Theory of a Deadman, MIKA, 54-40, Shiny Toy Guns, Evanescence, Rocco DeLuca, Collective Soul, Lifehouse, and k-os.
The Midway State is signed to the Canadian label Remedy Music[7] with distribution by EMI Music Canada[8] and Universal Music's Interscope Records.
Their song "Unaware" was featured during the final minutes of the FOX Show, The O.C. on Wednesday, February 1, 2007.
In May 2007, their song "A Million Fireflies" was featured on the NME compilation disc "Canadian Blast" that was released as a promotion attached to the magazine.
The 2006 Eponymous - EP has been remixed and re-released with new artwork and a new name, now titled the Man on Top the Hill EP. Along with remixed versions of the songs, the EP contains the video for Change for You, shot by Stevo of Sum 41.
On 29 June 2007, they performed live in Trafalgar Square in London for Canada Day[9] before going to the prestigious Olympia in Paris the next day.
Paste Magazine's September 2007 issue includes "A Million Fireflies" on its enclosed CD Sampler (Issue/CD #35, Track #18).
The Midway State finished a tour with Chris Daughtry in December, 2007.
The Midway State's full length debut, titled "Holes", was released in Canada on July 22, 2008. The album was produced at Metalworks Studios, who has also recorded David Bowie & Tina Turner.
The Midway State later won 2 Much Music Video Awards in 2009.
