Biography

Originally formed as a solo vehicle for singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Robert White (Ring, Levitation and Zag & the Coloured Beads) in the early 1990s, The Milk and Honey Band draws its inspiration from the pastoral/experimental sounds of '60s psychedelic/space rock and '70s power pop. White officially launched the outfit in 1994 with Round the Sun. Released on Rough Trade, the album's lo-fi production and dark, progressive tone reflected its author's frustrations with his current band, Levitation. White spent the next few years stockpiling songs and pursuing a career in commercial music production. It was during this time that multi-instrumentalists Richard Yale and Michael Tubb were brought on board, culminating in 2001's Boy from the Moon for Uglyman Records. In 2004 the group inked a deal with XTC mastermind Andy Partridge's Ape Records and released The Secret Life of the Milk and Honey Band, followed by 2009's Dog Eared Moonlight. ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide
