Theōn

Theōn, of Alexandria (fourth century AD), Greek mathematician and astronomer. His reworkings of Ptolemy's astronomical tables are the only form in which these were known to Arabic astronomers and through them became known to medieval Europe. He was the last known member of the Museum at Alexandria, and father of Hypatia (see also NEOPLATONISM). Others of the same name include a grammarian and commentator on the Hellenistic Greek poets, of the first century BC.
