"The Night Santa Went Crazy" is an original song by "Weird Al" Yankovic. The song is a style parody of several songs: "I Believe in Father Christmas" by Greg Lake (from which much of the melody is derived), "Mama, I'm Coming Home" by Ozzy Osbourne, and "Black Gold" by Soul Asylum.

Alternate versions

  • An "Extra Gory" version was made and released on the single for "Amish Paradise." It differs in that Santa is killed instead of imprisoned and the elves file for unemployment. This version is the particularly favored version of Dr. Demento, who regularly plays it on his Christmas shows.
  • Another version was written for the Touring with Scissors tour in 1999. It differs from the original version with Santa being killed but the elves all getting jobs. It can be seen on the "Weird Al" Yankovic Live! concert video.
