The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Pumpkin King is a game for the Game Boy Advance released in autumn 2005.
The events of the game take place before those of the movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas. The story tells of Jack's first encounter with his nemesis, Oogie Boogie, and how he claimed the title of "The Pumpkin King".
This game was released at the same time as The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge.

Plot
Oogie Boogie was a character from a town that represented Bug Day. When the holiday was forgotten, it vanished but Oogie escaped. Upon coming to Halloween Town, he decided to claim it as the new Bug Day. He did not count on one obstacle in his way, Jack Skellington. It is up to Jack to stop Oogie's army of giant bugs with the help of his dog Zero and the citizens of Halloween Town.
Weapons
- Frog Gun: It resembles Sally's "frog breath" from the movie. It is your main weapon. It is given to you by the Mayor at the beginning of the game, and is powered up by Doctor Finklestein later.
- Bat Boomerang: Given to you by Doctor Finklestein and later powered up by him.
- Pumpkin Bomb: A grenade shaped like a pumpkin. Powered up later by the Clown.
Characters
- Jack Skellington: He is tall and thin with a bat bow tie. He is the only character you control throughout the game (besides occasionally playing as Zero).
- The Mayor of Halloweentown: He is (literally) two-faced. He orders you around on your quest.
- Zero: You find Zero at your house, and he often helps you by guiding you through small places.
- Sally: Oogie's main hostage, Jack's main goal is to save her.
- Lock, Shock, and Barrel: Oogie Boogie's henchman.
- Oogie Boogie: The main source of evil in Halloween Town.
- Citizens of Halloween Town: These include the Vampires, the Corpse Kid, and more.

- Mega-Spider - Lock, Shock, and Barrel's enormous mutated pet spider. Fought in "Halloween Madness"

- Colossal Moth - A huge moth that has super acidic saliva and exhales poisonous fumes. Fought in "Blah, Blah, Blah"

Areas
Halloween Town Square
It is the area of Halloween Town. The first time you enter, the boss at the end is a gigantic spider. There is no boss the second time.
Jack's House
This is Jack's house, entered twice. The music at this point is "Jack's Obsession". The first time you enter it, you're trying to find Zero, and there is no boss. The second time, you are helping the Vampire, who has "gone sane", and you must face a moth-type creature that releases a purple mist, confusing you.
Doctor Finklestein's Lab
Again, you enter here twice. It is, well, Doctor Finklestein's lab. The music "Doctor Finklestein" plays in the background as you either search for the Doctor (First time) or Igor (Second time). The first time you enter, you have to fight a giant snake that has trapped Doctor Finklestein. There is no boss the second time.
Pumpkin Patch
Listening to "In the Forest", you set out to either save the Corpse Kid from a possessed pumpkin (first time) or get an elixir from the Witches (second time). There is no boss the first time, but the second time you enter you must face a pillbug, then a giant worm consequently, with no healing.
Graveyard
You listen to "Jack's Lament" while exploring the graveyard. The first time you enter, you travel through the graveyard to gather ingredients for the Mayor's lunch (it turns out he was about to inadvertently eat the Melting Man). At the end, you face a large cricket. The second time, there is no boss, but you have to catch Lock, Shock, and Barrel in the act of destroying the streetlamps.
Oogie's Lair
You set off to finally face Oogie Boogie. First, you must find the Clown's tear-away face. Next, you get into Lock, Shock, and Barrel's elevator, but it breaks down. So, you must fix it, fight Lock, Shock, and Barrel, then defeat Oogie.
