The Old Gum Tree

Wikipedia: The Old Gum Tree

The Old Gum Tree.

The Old Gum Tree in Glenelg North, South Australia is a historic site associated with Governor John Hindmarsh's Proclamation (on 28 December1836) of the creation of the colony of South Australia. Each year, an anniversary ceremony is held on Proclamation Day, with the current Governor reading out Hindmarsh's original speech.

The tree itself, probably a red gum, has long since died. Its rotted outer surface was replaced with concrete in 1963.[1]
