This would be a great set if it were indeed a collection of the hits of the Platters and the Drifters in their original versions, but unfortunately everything here is a re-recording, and while songs like "Under the Boardwalk," "On Broadway," "The Great Pretender," and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" are undeniably great in any incarnation, the original singles had more presence than these remakes. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music GuideTracks
