The Protest

Plot

Because of her beauty, factory girl Molly Fisher (Leona Hutton) draws the attention of a gangster, Walsh. He convinces her parents that she should marry him, but Molly wants nothing to do with him and runs away. He continues to hound her and causes her to lose her next job. She is refused work at a department store next, and becomes desperate, stealing a pocketbook from a customer. She's caught in the act, but the lecherous -- and married -- store owner offers to let her go if she goes to dinner with him. Molly agrees, and Walsh decides to use this affair against the store owner. The man's son, Roger (Crane Wilbur), gets involved and tries to take the blame. His fiancee, believing he was involved with Molly, dumps him. Molly decides to make up for all the trouble she has caused Roger. He's a district attorney and needs some papers for his fight against a corrupt political boss, so she steals them. When Roger realizes what she is doing for him, he too falls for her, but unlike those before him, he makes an honest woman of her with an offer of marriage. Believe it or not, this plot was somehow crammed into just three reels! ~ Janiss Garza, All Movie Guide
