The Proud Family is an American animated television series that aired on Disney Channel from September 15, 2001 to August 19, 2005.

Production

The Proud Family was created by Bruce W. Smith and was produced by his studio, Jambalaya Studios. Originally piloted for Nickelodeon [1], it was eventually picked up by the Disney Channel in 2001. Many of the later episodes of The Proud Family were produced using Macromedia Flash. It was first broadcast in the United States on The Disney Channel on September 15, 2001, and was later aired on Toon Disney until February 2009. It has also broadcast on The Family Channel in Canada. Disney Channel admits that it will not air the new seasons of The Proud Family. The show was the first Disney animated show which didn't premiere on network/over-the-air television, which had been done since 1985 when the Television Animation unit was started.

Characters

  • Penny Proud (Kyla Pratt), a 14-year-old teenager, is the oldest child in the Proud family.
  • Oscar Proud (Tommy Davidson), an over-protective father, is Penny, BeBe and CeCe's father. He owns his own snack, called "Proud Snax".
  • Trudy Proud (Paula Jai Parker), a sweet yet stern mother, is Oscar's wife and Penny, BeBe and CeCe's mother. She is the level-headed parent in the Proud family.
  • BeBe and CeCe Proud (Tara Strong), two twins, are Penny's twin baby brother and sister. They could be considered rather smart despite their age.
  • Suga Mama Proud (Jo Marie Payton), a sweet yet rather aggressive grandmother, is Penny, BeBe and CeCe's grandmother, as well as Oscar's mother and Trudy's mother-in-law. She is very protective of her grandkids.

The Proud Family Movie is a Disney Channel Original Movie which premiered on August 19, 2005, marking the end of the series. The Proud Family is continuous when Penny turns 16, is allowed to make her own decisions, have more freedom, start dating, and finally gets her drivers license.

Syndication

Starting in late June BET started to air Proud Family. Check your local listings for times.

DVD Releases

Jambalaya Studios currently has no plans to release the animated show on DVD at this time.
