Selig's The Sanitarium was so cheaply produced that the Variety reviewer was of the opinion that it was slapped together the night before its release. Running short of funds, a wealthy gentleman and his valet hit upon a sure-fire moneymaking scheme. The two men turn their house into a sanitarium, or health spa. The comedy arises from the protagonist's efforts to cure their various patients. Needless to say, the cure is often worse than the disease. Virtually laughless for most of its running time, The Sanitarium makes up for its past shortcomings with a hilarious slapstick finale. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
