Plot

Lisa Simpson (voice of Yeardley Smith) has long been accustomed to being the smartest kid in her class, so when she's unable to figure out a puzzle being passed around by her classmates, she can't help but feel something's wrong. After a few other lapses in her memory, Lisa wonders out loud about what's happening, and Grandpa Simpson (voice of Dan Castellaneta) warns her about the long-term effects of the "Simpson Gene." According to Grandpa, most Simpsons start out smart but the time they're done with grade school, they become progressively dumber with each passing year, and after watching her father Homer (also voiced by Castellaneta) and brother Bart (voice of Nancy Cartwright) in action, she begins to fear Grandpa is right and that her days as an intellectual may be numbered. Meanwhile, elderly Jasper (voice of Harry Shearer) has decided to freeze himself in order to survive into the coming centuries, but since he can't afford cryonic suspension, he simply parks himself in the ice cream case at the Kwik-E-Mart until he becomes a block of ice. Ever-entrepreneurial Apu (voice of Hank Azaria) knows a golden opportunity when he sees one, and is soon charging patrons to look at the frozen wonder. "Lisa The Simpson" was first aired on March 8, 1998. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
