Biography

The stage name of singer/songwriter Vincent Voss, the Singing Mechanic is yet another tentacle growing off the ever-expanding avant-garde Christian rock monster known as the Sounds Familyre label. Having listened to nothing but classical music until the age of 11, Voss soon broadened his musical palette with an unfortunate mélange of 1980s soundtrack music and hair metal. A real-life mechanic specializing in Volkswagen buses, running his own Vinnie's Bus'iness, Voss met up with Damien Jurado, Dave Bazan, and Blake Wescott and soon signed on to become Jurado's keyboard player. By 1997, he had started to learn the rudiments of guitar and songwriting and would occasionally play a few of his new compositions before and after Jurado's sets. By 2001, Voss had enough original material to embark on his first tour, drawing the attention of Daniel Smith of the Danielson Famile, with whom he ended up recording his first album in May of that year. Joined in the studio with members of Unwed Sailor and the Danielson Famile, It Wouldn't Be What it Is was released in late 2001. ~ Matt Fink, All Music Guide
