Game Character:

The Skull

Character Bio

Sterling LaVaughn was one of the old-school F-Zero pilots, back in the day when rules and regulations were still on the drawing board and racers simply destroyed each other to win. Race after race, LaVaughn survived without a scratch on his body. However, even he realized his pure luck and that luck only lasts so long.

Fearing a fiery death on the tracks, LaVaughn researched science and black magic in search of a way to stay alive, even after a violent and bloody disaster that would surely ensue. He found an ancient chant coupled with several injections of a prototypical drug designed to preserve the brain. As the final race in the Grand Prix began, he had a very bad feeling about the day. He recited the chant one more time and took off.

The finish line was in sight, and 14 other racers were all crowded around. One hit the wall, spun out and struck another. The reaction continued down the track until all cars had wrecked and caught fire, including his own. Only one would survive. It wasn't LaVaughn.

After his burial, though, LaVaughn arose. The spell had worked! He was alive again. A quick inspection of his body with its rotting flesh and bleached bones, however, led him to wish he could die. Cursed to live forever, LaVaughn -- now simply known as The Skull -- has returned to racing, the only thing he has left. He finds happiness in F-Zero once again and remains a testament to the ravages that the sport has gone through to arrive at its fairly safe state.
