The Slums of Paris are the breeding grounds for a gang of clever thieves. Gaining access to a Parisian bank via the city's underground sewer system, the villains manage to abscond with the bank's safe. They transport their booty to a remote rural area then laboriously force the safe open. Just as the bandits have gotten their filthy mitts on the money, the gendarmes arrive to mete out justice. Whether or not the Law prevails is uncertain, since Slums of Paris came to an unceremonious halt in the middle of the last scene. It is know that the film, like many other French productions of the period, was color-tinted by hand. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
