Reflecting the less-frenetic side of Javanese music, musicians of the Sunda region in the southwest portion of the island incorporate many traditional gamelan elements into an often reflective and at times playful ensemble sound. Beyond many traditional recordings, there are also modern, pop-inspired records such as this. Featuring the renowned singers Euir Komariah and Yu Wiradiredja, The Sound of Sunda offers up a stellar set of love songs sung in both the traditional and modern style, with some stunning and somewhat haunting vocal twists to top things off.
