Review

As part of the mid-priced EMI Hemisphere Story of Series, The Story of Arabic Song features nine recordings taken from the label's extensive archive. Included is the Egyptian composer Mohamed Abdel Wahab, Lebanese singer Wadih El Safi, Saudi Arabian classical composer Talal El Madaah, and beloved female singers Oum Kolsoum and Fairuz. This material, recorded in the '60s and '70s, is obscure to most Western ears, and provides a pleasant surprise for connoisseurs or casual fans of world music. ~ Al Campbell, All Music Guide
