Biography

Made up of guitar player/vocalist Anna Greenaway, drumming wunderkind Jodie Wyatt and lead guitarist Matt Bolton, British pop-punk band the Sugars made their big league debut in March of 2006. Backed by nightclub-turned-record label Bad Sneakers, the non-conventional trio made their recording industry debut with single "Doo-Wop (Sugar So Sweet)." Bad Sneakers, a weekly night club hosted at the Faversham, became the beating heart of the Leeds music scene. Their first move as a record label was to sign local favorites the Sugars. Influenced by 1950-something aesthetics (Bobby "Blue" Bland and Jackie Wilson) and early-'80s punk and new wave, they did not take long in climbing to the top of the local live rock heap. Even with just a handful of singles released since their debut, including "Monsters" and "Beep Beep," the Sugars have made an impact on national charts throughout Europe. The band continues to gather momentum for the eventual recording of their debut full-length release. ~ Evan C. Gutierrez, All Music Guide
