The Tempest

Dictionary of Dance: The Tempest

Ballet in two parts with choreography by Tetley, music by Arne Nordheim, and designs by Baylis. Premiered 3 May 1979 by Ballet Rambert at Schwetzingen, with Christopher Bruce, L. Burge, Gianfranco Paluzi, Thomas Yang, and Mark Wraith. Based on Shakespeare's play, the ballet is, according to Tetley, ‘about voyage and loss, and regaining that which is lost’. It was revived for the Norwegian Ballet in 1980.
