The Two Orphans

1874The Two Orphans. This translation by Hart Jackson of the French play Les Deux Orphelines by Eugène Cormon and Adolphe d'Ennery, about the harrowing experiences of two sisters separated in Paris, becomes, in the words of theatrical scholar George Odell, "one of the greatest theatrical success of all time in America." It would play almost continuously for the rest of the century.
