The University of Chicago ranks among the world's most esteemed major universities. It has an enrollment of nearly 14,000 students, some two-thirds of which are graduate students. The school's undergraduate branch offers a core curriculum based on the Great Books; students can choose from majors in about 50 areas. Among its graduate programs are the University of Chicago Law School and Graduate School of Business, both of which consistently rank in the top 10 by "U.S. News & World Report." The U of C is associated with more than 80 Nobel Prize recipients including Enrico Fermi, Milton Friedman, and Saul Bellow. Founded in 1890 by John D. Rockefeller, the university has an endowment of about $4.8 billion.
