Biography

The Wrights are the husband-and-wife country duo of Adam and Shannon Wright. Natives of southwest Georgia, both grew up in musical homes (Adam's uncle was country star Alan Jackson) and turned to country music at an early age. They met each other in 1998 when Adam filled in as a lead guitarist at one of Shannon's club gigs (she was a featured singer in a cover band) and the two began writing songs together almost immediately, eventually falling in love and marrying. The couple moved to Nashville in 2002, where they managed to land a spot opening for Loretta Lynn at the Grand Ole Opry. A song the pair co-wrote, "If Love Was a River," and another song of Adam's, "Strong Enough," both appeared on Jackson's 2004 album release, What I Do. Gigging wherever they could around Music City, the Wrights soon caught the eyes and ears of producers Keith Stegall and John Kelton, who took the couple into the studio, resulting in 2005's Down This Road, released on Jackson's ACR (Alan's Country Records) label in conjunction with RCA. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide

The Wrights were a one-off Australian rock music "supergroup". They consisted of Nic Cester (of Jet), Kram (of Spiderbait), Chris Cheney (of The Living End), Davey Lane (of You Am I and The Pictures) and Pat Bourke (of Dallas Crane). They are named after Australian music legend and former Easybeats frontman Stevie Wright, and writer of the song-trilogy "Evie" which was the group's feature song..

Background

Their first and only single was a cover version of Stevie Wright's song "Evie", an 11 minute song consisting of three parts. "Evie (Pt 1)" was first performed at the ARIA awards in 2004. They performed the whole trilogy live for the first time at the Sydney Cricket Ground as part of WaveAid, and it was released as a single in February 2005. "Evie (Pt 1)" featured Nic Cester as the vocalist, while Pts 2 and 3 featured vocalists Bernard Fanning of Powderfinger and Phil Jamieson of Grinspoon.

The profits for the single were donated to Stevie Wright and the Salvation Army to improve drug and alcohol rehabilitation, as well as the Red Cross for the tragic 2004 Boxing Day tsunami.

The single debuted at #2 on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart on the week of 2005-03-07.
