Plot

Originally telecast March 23, 1997, "Max" was the conclusion of a two-part X-Files drama that began with the previous week's "Tempus Fugit." Scott Bellis returns as frequent alien abductee Max Fenig. Investigating the crash of a jetliner carrying both Max and a valuable packet of evidence proving the existence of UFOs, Mulder is suddenly placed under military arrest. Meanwhile, Scully learns that the woman who has long been passing herself off as Max's sister (Chilton Crane) is actually a mental patient, casting serious doubts on the authenticity of Max's evidence. But Scully has more on her mind than Mulder and Max; she is mourning the death of a fellow FBI agent -- whose demise turns out to have vital significance to the case at hand. Both "Tempus Fugit" and "Max" were written by Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
