Theakston is a village and civil parish in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire, England. The village is situated just west of the A1 road, and is about three miles south-east of Bedale.

The name, Theakston is believed to derive from the name of the leading family settling the area during the Anglo-Saxon colonisation of England. The name may be a corruption of Thatchton, which in turn describes the roofing material thatch; popular in many towns at that time.
